Sustainable Energy Practices

LoonSong Garden's long term vision is toward an operation of self-sustaining energy, so the energy generated comes from the farm itself.

LoonSong takes a low-energy approach, using simple solar panels to power irrigation and electric fences. We use deep root systems, which not only help the plants access more of the available soil moisture, but also increase the exposure to soil nutrients.  This reduces water and also translates into more nutritious and tasty produce!

When we do irrigate, we use deep soakings with drip hoses right next to the rows, in order get soil moisture where it is needed.  This eliminates evaporative losses that occur from sprinkler methods and keeps our water volume down.
